2048 Instructions

Try to get a single square to be 2048. Combine two of the same number to add them together.

Swipe in any direction to move all of the numbers in that direction. Take a break every now and then for food and water.

2048 TIPS

2048 can be a tough game to get the hang of without guidance. Not to worry though, we have some tips that will help you get all the way up to the 2048 square.

Pick a corner

The goal is to make one tile 2048. The easiest way to do that is to pick a corner and focus on making that corner tile your highest number tile. Most people pick the bottom right corner, but you could pick whichever corner feels good to you. Once you’ve picked a corner, two directions will always keep your number in that corner, and the other two are risky to press without thinking. Don’t let your biggest number leave that corner unless you have no other choice!

Build a number chain

Once you’ve picked a corner, pick a row (or column) to chain numbers into. All of your biggest numbers should be in this row, from smallest to largest, to make it easier to merge tiles together. Try to always keep this row full of numbers (even small ones) so that you can move safely in three directions. Once you get above 512, you may need to chain into the row next to the one you’re already using.

Stay organized

Try to keep your larger numbers neat and organized. Don’t combine them all over the board without thinking. If you do, you’ll end up with a bunch of large-numbered tiles that can’t merge together. Focus on keeping your large numbers in the chain described above. You can keep the game going by keeping the number of larger numbers to a minimum and keeping the board full of smaller numbers instead.

Plan ahead

Your game will last longer if you look a couple of steps ahead to plan your moves. Try to make sure that a row or column with your largest number is always full or close to full of numbers. When new numbers appear, they are usually a 2 or 4. Think about where you need to combine numbers in order to keep your chain in order. All of the above strategies will only work if you take a minute to look ahead before you start merging your tiles.

WHAT YOU LEARN BY PLAYING 2048

If you play 2048, you’ll become very familiar with powers of 2, and you’ll have to plan ahead and think strategically. This game may look simple, but you will need some serious foresight if you want to make it all the way to the 2048 tile.

Is there a trick to 2048?

Always try to move towards one corner. For example, if players are aiming for the bottom left corner, they should continue to go down and left until they are unable to. This makes the game much simpler to play, as the big numbers will end up filtering to the bottom.

What is the highest number possible in 2048?

Assuming that you are only given 2 tiles, the highest number possible in 2048 is 65536. That means that players will have to combine a 2 tile 16 times in order to get 65536.

Is 2048 a math game?

2048 is absolutely a math game. Players learn how quickly numbers can scale up by multiplying by 2. While this isn’t the most difficult math, learning how to multiply by 2 is definitely an important skill.

What games should I play if I like 2048?

If you are a fan of puzzle games such as 2048, then consider checking out the Suika Watermelon Game.
