Improved Aerodynamics of the Peterbilt Model 579
The advanced aerodynamic features found on the Peterbilt Model 579 improve both fuel economy and the bottom line. The new hood and bumper, air dam, mirrors, wheel well closeouts, and A-pillar fairing were all designed with aerodynamics, fuel efficiency, and reduced noise in mind. Tandem fairings and wheel covers are a new addition that work with the chassis fairings to reduce drag. With Peterbilt’s optional EPIQ Aero Max package, wheel covers and rear axle fairings are also included.

SmartLINQ
SmartLINQ is Peterbilt’s answer to remote diagnostics. The connected truck technology monitors the health of the truck automatically, and can track up to 750 engine and emissions parameters. When a problem is detected, the SmartLINQ system sends alerts to the fleet manager and the nearest Peterbilt dealership.
SmartAir
SmartAiris an impressive advancement that can keep a sleeper cool and comfortable for up to 10 hours at a stretch without idling. It’s powered by four heavy-duty AGM batteries. The SmartAir no-idle climate-control system keeps drivers cool, fuel costs low, and and the environment happy.
The SmartAir system is factory-installed and available on the sleeper version of the Peterbilt Model 579. It works with existing HVAC systems by using existing ducting.
SmartAir uses 70% less fuel than diesel-based auxiliary power units, and it charges in 25% less time than similar no-idle battery packs. Best of all, it requires no scheduled maintenance.
SmartNav
Infotainment systems have become standard in passenger vehicles, and the Peterbilt Model 579 brings that comfort to commercial trucks with SmartNav. The systembrings GPS navigation, communications, and vehicle monitoring directly to the dashboard.
The SmartNavdisplay features a seven-inch color touch-screen which enables easy interaction with all the technologies, functions and apps a driver needs. SmartNavalso uses voice recognition and control, so drivers can keep their eyes on the road.

Largest Digital Display in the Industry
The Peterbilt Model 579 leads the industry with a 15-inch digital display. It boasts a configurable interface with critical information and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology and features. These include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and even sign recognition. The default view can be customized by the driver or fleet to have the most important data visible on the display.
Telematics Connections
Peterbilt is fully embracing the rise of aftermarket telematics by including two standard RP1226 connectors behind the dash. This allows for multiple connection locations and harness pass-through options to support the configuration needed.
70 Cubic Feet of Storage
The interior of the Peterbilt Model 579 sleeper offers drivers 8 feet of headroom, 70 cubic feet of storage and the largest mattresses in the industry. Drivers will appreciate having room for up to a 32-inch TV and a 1.1-cubic foot microwave, and they’ll love the sound abatement technology for a quiet night’s sleep.
Safety Is Built Into the Peterbilt Model 579
The Peterbilt Model 579 is equipped with the latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features that are designed to improve both safety and uptime.
Lane Keeping Assist is an advanced feature that uses an electric motor mounted on the steering column that helps the driver stay in between the lines. This feature helps to reduce driver fatigue.
The Peterbilt Model 579 uses an Enhanced Collision Mitigation system if triggered by a slower moving vehicle or stationary object ahead. The featured automatically engages the brake system, reducing vehicle speed by up to 50 mph and minimizing the likelihood of a loss-of-control situation or a collision. Once the objector vehicle is no longer in the road, the system will resume at its pre-event set speed.
The Peterbilt Model 579 can detect when the truck is unintentionally drifting out of the travel lane and alert the driver to take action with a Lane Departure Warning.
Highway departure braking functions will sound an audible alert for the driver and will apply foundation brakes to reduce vehicle speeds if the system determines the vehicle unintentionally leaves the roadway.
SIDE OBJECT DETECTION
Side Object Detection uses high-definition cameras and radar to provide visual and audible warnings when vehicles are traveling in the truck’s passenger side blind spot.
The PACCAR Powertrain Makes the Peterbilt Model 579 More Efficient
The PACCAR Powertrain is designed to keep the truck safely operating while maximizing payload capacity. The Peterbilt Model 579 is driven by the precisely engineered PACCAR MX Engine, efficient 12-speed automated transmission and a 40K tandem axle.
There are two PACCAR MX engines available for the Peterbilt Model 579: the MX-11 and MX-13. The MX-11 is 300 pounds lighter than the MX-13 while remaining durable with an impressive peak horsepower of 445 at 1700 lb.-ft and 900 rpm. The MX-13 is heavier but boasts 510 horses at 1850 lb.-ft and 1000 rpm. Both MX engines are designed for longevity, with service interval of up to 75,000 miles. According to Peterbilt, there are natural gas engines available as well.
