Kannada cinema star Darshan Thoogudeepa and his alleged romantic partner Pavithra Gowda have found themselves embroiled in a perplexing murder case, with both individuals taken into custody by the Bengaluru police.

The investigation centers around the killing of a 33-year-old man named Renuka Swamy, whose body was discovered in a stormwater drain in the city’s Kamakshipalya area on June 9, 2024, a day after his reported demise.

Authorities allege that Swamy had made disparaging remarks about Gowda on social media platforms, which purportedly prompted Thoogudeepa and his associates to orchestrate a sinister plot to end the victim’s life.

The unfolding narrative suggests that the 47-year-old actor reached out to the president of the Chitradurga Fan Association to ascertain Swamy’s whereabouts and arrange for his transportation to Bengaluru.

Swamy was subsequently apprehended in Chitradurga and taken to a shed in Kamakshipalya, where he was allegedly subjected to brutal torture, ultimately leading to his untimely demise. The victim’s body bore numerous signs of injury, including a staggering 15 bone fractures, before being discarded into the stormwater drain.

In a swift response, the police have taken Darshan Thoogudeepa, Pavithra Gowda, and 11 other suspected accomplices into custody. The apprehended individuals were transported to Bowring Hospital for medical evaluation and later presented before a local court, where they were remanded to police custody until June 17.

The Karnataka Home Minister has emphasized that law enforcement agencies have granted full autonomy in handling the case and that legal proceedings will be pursued without prejudice, regardless of the suspects’ social standing or celebrity status.
